PS. Personally, I would prefer to travel for a DebConf in
Cuba than in US. Really.

For comparison, there’s a link on the Reporters Sans Frontieres page cited above to an article about Cuba, which talks about another set of oppressed reporters:

The 26 independent journalists were part of a group of nearly 80 dissidents who were rounded up on 18 March. Accused of working with the US interests section (the US diplomatic representation in Havana) to “endanger the state’s independence or territorial integrity,” they have been sentenced to jail terms ranging from six to 28 years.

Now sure, I can understand not liking the treatment of those French journalists. I can understand not liking guns, or jail terms for soft drugs, or being for gay rights, or affirmative action, or abortion. But I cannot understand, and have no wish to abide the utterly irrational hatred of America, Americans and George W. Bush that causes someone to choose despotism over democracy. Not for Stalin, not for Osama, not for Saddam and not for Castro.
